Chef Odunsi creates some of the most original dishes I’ve seen come out of someone’s kitchen in a long while. And I love watching food come out of the kitchen. Over the past year, I’ve watched him create, refine, and cook his heart out for scores of people. He’s crafted dishes I thought were familiar into something new and rediscovered. I love being able to be a part of his creative process from idea to execution.
Chef cooks for my son multiple times per week and totally ruining the little man’s palate in the process. After eating multiple selections from Chef’s Signature Cheesecake line to his Filo Spinach and Shrimp Pizza he really doesn’t cut for fast food burger sliders. True story.
And I thank him for that.
Between Chef and my wife, my son is going to have the most refined [and expensive] taste buds.
He’s been much more than a chef. He’s made his ear available as a friend, his talents available as fellow creative, and his perspective as a human. Between his sense of humor and his hatred of his fellow man, Chef is churning toward greatness every single day. Oh yes, hatred. He is your largest supporter and your largest hater at the same time, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. His need to deliver a superior product is what drives the consistency in his product and his person.
Every January begins another fresh year for my friend and the same goes true for every other January baby out there, but this year is just different. This year the Legend of Chef officially takes shape. I believe that 100% – partly because it’s already begun. From the time he decided to put meat to flame and whisk to bowl full time to watch others enjoy his creations, The Legend of Chef began. The story is being written and I’m privileged to be a part of it.
Make no mistake, I’m lucky to be the first to write on his work, but I won’t be the last. Just take a look at this Sunday Dinner spread. These events will be the thing of lore in time to come. Just outright delicious. An invitation only night where he adds just a little extra creative and technical bite to his dishes. Flavors so robust it even made my toddler utter a full command sentence just to get another bite of deliciousness. Basically, he made my son talk!
Here’s having my first official post of 2014 to dedicate a huge Happy Birthday to my friend and business partner, Chef Abdul…
I’m proud of your work and Thank You for all you’ve done for myself and the family. Thanks for just being you – even when you’re being a horrible person. Love you, my friend.
